In-store QR Code Payment

The UnionPay QR Code Payment Product is a low cost, convenient and secure mobile payment service for both cardholders and merchants and is based on EMVCo QR Code technical specification to ensure global interoperability and capability of aggregation. The UnionPay QR Code offers both merchant-present mode either static or dynamic, where cardholders use their mobile wallet app to scan the merchant’s QR Code to initiate payment, and consumer-present mode, where merchants use their cashier device (POS, merchant app, scanner etc.) to scan the cardholders payment QR code to initiate payment.

Appalicability

To launch the UnionPay QR Code product among merchants, acquirers shall obtain UnionPay International QRC Acquiring License.

1. Face-to-face in-store payment

2. ATM withdrawal

3.  Self-service terminals such as parking lots, vending machines etc.


Payment Flow

Merchant-Present Mode

1. UnionPay card-provision for first-time use (cardholder to set app PIN)

2. The cardholder scans the merchant QR Code.

3. The cardholder confirms the transaction amount and app CVM.

4. The transaction is complete, and the merchant and cardholder both receive notifications.

Consumer-Present Mode

1. UnionPay card-provision for first-time use (cardholder to set app PIN)

2. The cardholder generates the payment QR code in the consumer app. 

3. The merchant scans the QR code.

4. The transaction is complete, and the merchant and cardholder both receive notifications.

1 . Offline in-store purchase

  1. Merchant-Present QRC: QR code generated by acquirer and displayed on the merchant side.

Usage scenarios include ordering a meal with a QR code, food delivery, etc.
